I LOVE Pune. Visiting Pune gives me a feeling of 'coming home'. I've spent the best years of my school life there, made life long friends and found my husband there too. I love everything about that city- the weather (Monsoons <3), the people, the feel, the old trees that line Camp and the snacky food.
Oh the snacky food. There is something so perfect about chakli and bhakarwadi that no other tea-time snack can replace or match up to it.
My dad had recently visited Pune and as always had fulfilled my demand list of things to bring.
Here's a pic of the goody bag:
Contents: Sahil Chakli (left most)
Chitle Bakarwadi (Right of the Chakli)
Budhani Bros Potato Chiwda (Green packet)
Laxminarayan Rice Chiwda (Red packet)
Laxminarayan Cornflakes Chiwda (Blue packet)
Shrewsbury Biscuits from Kayanis Bakery
Where's the booty at?
The chakli and bakarwadi are easily available at most departmental stores or local stores at Pune. Sahil Chakli is by far the BEST chakli I've had. Its the perfect taste, crunch and texture. I love it so much that now it accompanies my lunch and dinner too. Chitle Bakarwadi is a lovely spicy, crunchy pinwheel snack that goes sooo well with cold coffee or tea. Chitle is a famous store at Pune and is now available online at http://www.chitalebandhu.in/
Budhani Bros - they have an outlet right on M.G. Road, Camp at Pune. This is right opposite Marzorin (such blissfully convenient locations). Apart from the chiwda, one MUST try their Masala Wafers. The masala wafers are a beautiful mix of chilli and sweet. I used to get bags full of these. The store is a must visit to get swamped with a variety of namkeens to pick from.
Laxminarayan Rice Chiwda and Cornflakes Chiwda are truly my Mum's favorite. I remember going to Center Street, Camp to pick this up from opposite the Hanuman Mandir.
Shrewsbury Biscuits from Kayanis just reminds me of childhood. We were at Delhi and mom had bought around 2 kgs of this and I loved the way they smelled. Heavenly, bakery kinda whiff. Apart from the Shrewsbury, I like their chocolate biscuits and LOVE their Mawa Cake.
These are all just the goodies that won't spoil soon and I'll get to savour them for quite sometime! More on Pune when I visit it next.
